That was 20 years ago.

Thankfully Holly’s surgery saved her life. But it didn’t save her vision. Since then, with the help of kind New Zealanders like you, we have been there for Holly.

We worked with her to learn how to use her white cane to get around, to use a computer, complete university, write her CV and look for jobs, volunteer as a music specialist for people with disabilities, learn how to cook safely, find her way around a new neighbourhood and much more.

Why?

Because people who are blind, deafblind or have low vision deserve to live the lives they choose. They deserve to be able to get an education, enjoy life, get married, take public transport, study, work, volunteer and have families.

And for those things to happen many people need you.

Whether you or someone you love has been blind, deafblind or had low vision since childhood or acquired it later in life, Blind Low Vision NZ is here.

From guide dogs, white canes, audio books to adaptive technology and living skills – the support Kiwis need with blindness or low vision is here.

Holly married her partner of four years in 2020. They’ve moved to a new house in a new town, which Holly is gradually getting to know with the help of her Blind Low Vision NZ specialist.

She will continue to need assistance at various times throughout her life. With the help of people like you, we’ll be there for her. And for you if you ever need us.

Please donate now to give others like Holly the support they need to live the life they choose.
