Come along for an evening of table tennis in Dunedin and discover different ways to play, including SWISH, an accessible form of table tennis designed so blind, low vision and sighted people can play together.
No experience is needed. Come along, give it a go and bring your whānau. Everyone is welcome.
What you can try
There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved, including:
- SWISH: Adaptive table tennis for blind, low vision and sighted players.
- Para table tennis: Table tennis adapted for players with physical disabilities.
- Regular table tennis: Have a go at the classic game.
- Modified table tennis: Played using a bigger, softer ball that is bounced to your opponent.
What is SWISH?
SWISH uses a long bat and an audible ball. Blind, low vision and sighted people can play together, with players able to wear blindfolds to create a level playing field.
Instead of hitting the ball over a net, players use the bat to roll the audible ball across the table towards their opponent. The other player listens for the ball and rolls it back.
What is para table tennis?
Para table tennis follows the usual rules of table tennis, with modifications to make the game accessible. Players can take part while using wheelchairs or power chairs.
