Step inside Wharenui Harikoa, a stunning large-scale crocheted wharenui (Māori meeting house) that radiates joy, healing, and connection through te ao Māori.
This immersive installation features vibrant tukutuku panels, handcrafted pou, a tactile sensory wall, and an enchanting sound and lightscape. Inspired by ancestral taonga tuku iho (treasures passed down), visitors are invited to slow down, take off their shoes, and enter a space for reflection and wonder.
For the first time, Wharenui Harikoa will be standing during the rising of Matariki — a powerful moment to honour our tūpuna (ancestors), celebrate the present, and dream boldly for the future.
Audio described tours will take place at 12:30pm on Wednesday 16 July and Friday 18 July. The tour will run approximately 1 hour.
These tours are led by a trained Māori guide and include descriptive commentary, tactile elements, and time to soak in the full presence of this breathtaking space.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience Wharenui Harikoa in a truly accessible way.
