Meta AI Glasses FAQs

Where can I purchase Meta AI Glasses?

The NZ suppliers are working with retail chains like OPSM, so you can purchase them from these outlets. Blind Low Vision NZ is also in discussions with suppliers to secure a stock of the glasses, and as soon as we have finalised these arrangements, we will provide further information.

How much will they cost?

This may vary across retailers, so you will need to check with those stores, but we will be looking to secure a deal so that we can offer them to clients at a reduced rate. As soon as we have more information, we will share this with clients as a matter of urgency, as we know how much of a game-changer this technology is.

Can I get Meta glasses from Blind Low Vision NZ?

We are working with the suppliers to try to secure a deal, which will mean our clients have access to the glasses at a reduced rate. These discussions are still ongoing, but as soon as we have an update, we will be letting our community know as quickly as we can.

Can you tell me how to use my new glasses or will you have someone who can help me set them up?

Yes, we have a full user guide on our website covering how to use your Meta Glasses and get the best out of them. We also have a full product manual available in a range of accessible formats, including large print and braille. If you would like one of these, please let us know by calling us on 0800 24 33 33, or email  Communications@BlindLowVision.org.nz.

There is a lot of controversy around the glasses, as well as privacy concerns. Is it safe to wear them?

We have been working with our partners in the media to ensure the voice of our community is represented when they are talking about Meta glasses, this means focusing on the positive impact on our community not just focusing on the privacy concerns around the glasses. We acknowledge there are concerns about privacy but we also want the wider public to be aware of the positive impact these glasses are going to have on the lives of those who are blind, deafblind or have low vision. The issue is not so much the glasses but human behaviour and we are encouraging the media to focus on this aspect rather than the technology. We will continue to advocate strongly on your behalf to ensure you do feel confident wearing them when you’re out in public.

Will smart glasses work with hearing aids?

Smart glasses may not work as expected with all hearing aids or other hearing devices. This does not mean they will be unsuitable for everyone who uses hearing aids.

If you use a hearing aid or other hearing device, consider how the glasses will work with your existing technology before you decide if they are right for you. If you are unsure, consult your audiologist or optician first.

What is the difference between Ray-Ban and Oakley Meta smart glasses?

Ray-Ban and Oakley are both brands of Meta smart glasses. The glasses offer similar smart features, but you can choose from different frame styles, colours, and lens options.

Blind Low Vision NZ is stocking Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer frames. You can also purchase the wider range of Ray-Ban and Oakley Meta smart glasses from retailers nationwide, giving you more choice over the frame and lens options that suit you.
