Announcement from RNZFB Board Chair, Clive Lansink

Further to my announcement on 4 July that our Chief Executive John Mulka was to finish his employment with Blind Low Vision NZ on 8 September, I am writing to update you regarding the day to day staff leadership of our organisation.

Firstly I wish to assure you on behalf of the RNZFB Board, that the organisation is to maintain its focus and continue to operate business as usual. We are entering year four of the agreed strategic plan, and will continue to focus on the priorities of the current business plan supported by the approved budget for this financial year. We are also about to commence a comprehensive consultation process as we develop the next Strategic Plan. We appreciate that a lot of effort is required from all concerned in the year ahead to meet our goals and expectations.

Following input from the Executive Leadership Team, the Board has decided that it is in the best interests of the organisation to proceed now (rather than 8 September) to appoint an Acting Chief Executive to lead the organisation while the Board undertakes its formal search for the next permanent Chief Executive. We anticipate this could take several months. I can now advise that our current Chief Financial Officer, Greg Hurn, will commence as Acting Chief Executive with immediate effect. Greg has held this role previously and has extensive knowledge of the organisation.

The Executive Leadership Team and RNZFB Board have determined it’s best if John Mulka steps aside from day to day operations. John remains with Blind Low Vision NZ in an advisory capacity until his previously indicated formal departure of 8 September.

Please join us in congratulating Greg for taking on this important function and we thank you in advance for your anticipated support.
