Hi-vis ads for low vision people.

8 July 2023

General

You’ve probably noticed our high-vis ads. If you have, we’re doing our job right. To reach Kiwis with vision difficulties, it’s a no-brainer to make a campaign you literally can’t miss, so we’ve created big bold ads that look bright, use high contrast yellow and black, with a magnified effect to really make the point loud and proud.

We’re doing this because studies have shown that Kiwis think Blind Low Vision NZ is only for the almost or fully blind. People are waiting too long to call us, waiting until their vision has worsened, up to the point that they’ve hit a crisis. We’re here to tell you that you don’t have to wait. And as the campaign says, it’s possible for people struggling with their sight to “see a way.”

Age-related vision loss

It seems our older generation is copping most of the brunt. Those golden-agers who’ve spent a lifetime squinting at pavlova recipes, crosswords, and rugby scoreboards are now finding themselves in the low-vision club. They’re putting up with it, waiting until they’re “blind enough” before seeking help.

But here’s the thing. Blind Low Vision NZ is all about supporting those who are blind, deafblind, or have low vision to keep their independence. And we’re not just for the golden agers. We offer services, equipment, and robust support to help clients both young and old to overcome daily challenges. This includes anyone whose sight has started to play tricks on them, not just those for whom the lights have almost entirely dimmed.
