“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched — they must be felt with the heart,” said Helen Keller. To celebrate World Poetry Day, we’ve written a special poem that we hope will inspire you to read, or even write, some poetry!
On 21 March, we celebrate World Poetry Day,
With the Blind Low Vision NZ Library.
A day to embrace the power of words,
Where every line speaks and every voice is heard.
Our collection is vast, a sight to behold,
From modern poets to those of old.
Books in Braille, electronic, and audio too,
Words come alive, in every format, for you.
In Braille, the pauses and patterns appear,
Punctuation and flow, both sharp and clear.
Audio adds tone, pace, and emotion’s depth,
Turning words into waves with every breath.
The theme for this year brings poetry’s light,
Promoting peace, creativity, and inclusion’s might.
Poetry connects people across every land,
Fostering respect with a united hand.
Join us in celebrating the power of rhyme,
Poetry connects us, transcending time.
No matter the format, the beauty’s the same,
Let the words inspire, and ignite the flame.
