Braille Book Giveaway
Good books deserve good readers. Our Braille Book Giveaway places free Braille titles into the hands of anyone who wants them — to keep and enjoy.
Who can participate
Everyone! You do not need to be a Blind Low Vision NZ member to receive giveaway books.
What we give away
- Literary Braille titles mostly (English).
- Deselected library copies or donated surplus in good used condition; any items with poor condition or unreplaceable missing volumes are discarded.
- Newer sets may appear when we have duplicate productions.
- Māori or Pasifika titles may be included when available.
- Editions vary: pre-UEB or UEB, Grade 1 or Grade 2, all double-sided. (Specifics are shown in each giveaway catalogue.)
How it works
- We curate a list of available Braille books (timing depends on curation cycle and yield).
- We email the giveaway catalogue to the list.
- You reply with the titles you want.
- Allocation is first-come, first-served — no limits. We aim to place books as quickly as possible.
- We pack and ship to you free via Articles for the Blind (NZ-wide).
Books are yours to keep. No returns required.
Quality checks
The Senior Librarian leads condition checks. AFS and Logistics departments report on any issues and make recommendations. Items that don’t meet quality standards are withdrawn before listing.
What’s not included
- Requests for titles outside the posted catalogue (no wish-lists, sorry).
- Braille Music (not held in the physical library).
- Non-English foreign-language Braille (not held in the physical library).
