The Oppenheim Trust Fund is here to support Blind Low Vision NZ members in their second year, or above of tertiary study.
Founded in 1989 by Doctor and Mrs Oppenheim, the fund aims to ensure that our members are not disadvantaged in finding employment.
The fund is intended mainly for school leavers or those who haven’t yet started working in their chosen career.
Who can apply?
Second-year tertiary students and above: Only those who have already completed their first year of study can apply.
Please note: First-year students are not currently eligible.
Mature students and those studying for Masters or PhDs can also apply, but priority will be given to eligible first-time students.
What does the fund pay for?
The fund only covers tuition fees.
It doesn’t cover items such as textbooks, technology, travel, accommodation, or any extra fees like enrolment or registration.
How do I apply?
First, download and read the Oppenheim Trust Fund Applicant Guide available here.
Next, complete and submit the online Oppenheim Trust Application Form available here.
The committee will review each application and make decisions by mid-February. You’ll hear back from us then.
Grants will be paid directly to your university or training provider.
Here is what you need to include with your application:
Your completed online application form: You must submit your application online—no handwritten or email applications allowed.
Cover letter: Tell us about yourself, what you’re studying, and why it’s important to you.
Proof of enrolment from your university or training provider.
An invoice or quote showing how much your course costs.
Results from your previous studies.
Letters of support from someone important in your study area, like a teacher or lecturer. These letters should be dated within the last 12 months.
If you’re unable to provide any of these documents, be sure to include a letter explaining why.
Hot Tips for a Great Application
The committee expects your application to look like it’s from someone who has already done at least a year of study.
Spend time on your cover letter and letters of support—these are very important to your application.
Make sure everything is complete and submitted on time. Late applications won’t be accepted.
