Clients came from all over New Zealand from Auckland to Invercargill to take part in the Otago Rail Trail National Tandem event. Supported by our fantastic volunteers from the South everyone completed the 160 km challenge in style and with awesome attitude by the entire team.

Here’s some feedback from those clients who undertook this awesome challenge.

“The mingling of sighted and vision impaired people together, passionate about bike riding, exercise, adventure, and camaraderie, made for an event that words cannot adequately describe. Amazing, fulfilling, inspiring, come close to illustrate how suitably challenging it was for pilot and stoker who were well matched, along with the wonderful volunteers to round off the tandem affair.”

Kathryn Stevenson, Auckland.

“So inspired by the Otago History and the motivation of those I cycled the Otago Rail Trail with. It gives me optimism and courage to hope for a bright future as a low vision and low hearing person.”

Brian Gubb, Hamilton.

“I had a brilliant time on this trip: eight of us “stokers” from Blind Low Vision NZ sitting on the back of tandems “piloted” by wonderful volunteers, enjoying the scenery and challenges of the Otago Rail Trail. The weather, the people, the organisation and the collective achievement and fulfilment made this trip a highlight of my time as member of Blind Low Vision NZ. Simply epic! Can’t wait for another such adventure!”

Peter Adams, Dunedin.
