Two ladies riding a tandem bike on the street

At 68, Prue is saying yes to life, learning, and new adventures.

Tandem biking. Aqua aerobics. Gardening. Regular gym sessions. Prue is one busy lady. And it’s all thanks to supporters like you.

Prue’s vision journey began subtly at school with a maths homework incident. Prue couldn’t tell the difference between the teacher’s red pen and her blue one. Her Leber’s syndrome progressed gradually from 1969, leaving her with good peripheral vision but no central sight.

Working in London pubs, Prue adapted well. “Show me where things are, I’ll remember,” she’d tell workmates. A chance encounter with an ophthalmologist client led to her diagnosis. Over a gin and tonic, she first heard “leber’s syndrome.”

When Prue returned to NZ after living it up in the UK and NZ, Sport and Recreation Coordinator Erin reached out in (YEAR TBC). “She’s been absolutely marvellous and encouraging and inviting,” says Prue enthusiastically. “I try and say yes to everything I can.” So, Prue’s been embracing every opportunity that comes her way for 31 years now.

Your generosity means people like Prue can make the most of our Sport and Recreation services and embrace everything life offers.
