Thanks to wonderful people like you, your Pupstar has had an eventful start to 2026!
Gizmo had a wonderful first Christmas meeting lots of new people and playing with his Puppy Raiser’s young grandchildren – both under two years old! He’s very gentle with kids. But he quickly learned that children make great friends at mealtimes, as they tend to drop more food than adults! This smart pup really doesn’t miss a trick.
So, it’s no surprise that this clever boy picks up new commands with ease. But it’s not all work for Gizmo – he loves playtime, walks and snoozing on his Puppy Raiser’s feet. He also adores his roomie, Black Lab Cooper – the two of them are the best of friends!
In just a few short months, Gizmo has already experienced lots of different environments – he’s getting better at navigating busy public spaces. Recently, Gizmo had an assessment at the Blind Low Vision Guide Dog Training Centre – and he passed with flying colours. Good boy, Gizmo!
But like most puppies, Gizmo can be a wee bit naughty. He’s got an obsession with toilet rolls – if bathroom doors are left open, this little opuportunist steals them and “rips them to shreds!”. He also brings his Puppy Raiser ‘gifts’ – a random assortment of things he finds, including gumboots, gardening gloves and a dustpan and brush.
As he enters his teenage months, he’ll keep mastering new skills, such as “on your bed” and getting used to different places. Gizmo’s Puppy Raiser is also working on getting him to obey commands he knows, without getting rewarded with treats every time. Uno still needs plenty of stimulation through play, training, walks and running off lead. But he still needs to learn to settle down and relax – because pups that enjoy chilling out make great Guide Dogs!
Every milestone Gizmo reaches is made possible thanks to your generosity. We can’t wait to share more of his journey with you this year!
