The Lowdown on Uno.

With help like yours, Uno continues to mature into the beginnings of a disciplined, well-trained Guide Dog of the future. This handsome butterscotch Lab has hit the one-year milestone and is finally starting to settle into his role as a future guide dog superstar. Uno is fit and physically ready for longer adventures. He’s staying tip-top as he prepares for his formal training. Exciting stuff!

Out and about, Uno is mastering the art of being a well-rounded pup. He’s been on some exciting adventures lately – from his very first ferry trip to Devonport with his bestie, Tully, to working on those tricky dog distractions that used to catch his attention. His recent pre-training assessment went swimmingly – speaking of which, Uno has just discovered the joys of swimming and is absolutely loving it! Who knew this land-loving lab would take to water like a fish?

But that’s not his only first lately. He also met up with his very first feline friend recently. Good boy status? Maintained! Uno’s puppy raiser has been wonderful at introducing him to new experiences while revisiting familiar ones. His weekly public transport sessions are really paying off. Nothing seems to faze this unflappable pup anymore!

Uno is practising his obedience responses in everyday situations, on walks and around the house. These skills will lay the foundation for Uno’s future formal training. His puppy raiser is continuing with basic manners training and resisting the temptation to spoil this charming chap as training approaches! Sometimes it’s easier said than done – he’s got those puppy dog eyes down to an art form.

Uno is learning to become more trustworthy in the home and requires (slightly!) less supervision. His puppy raiser has been taking Uno on destination walks, which are his absolute favourite.  He also visits friends and even stays in motels – all excellent experiences that test his training to the fullest.
