Puppies in training Sandy, Gino, Kimba and Paddy, have all been training hard, gaining even more self-confidence, while still finding time for plenty of play, sleep and cuddles!
Sandy
Thanks to your support, Sandy spent her Christmas on a lifestyle block with plenty of visitors. She especially enjoyed the young kids that came to visit, and just loves keeping an eye on them to make sure they’re safe.
But she’s not just a country dog. Sandy has also spent lots of time training in busy malls, on buses and trains too! She has a calm, relaxed manner, even helps other dogs settle when she’s back in the kennels.
It’s not all serious stuff of course. She just loves to hold her toys in her mouth when she greets people – and loves spitting them out even more!
Kimba
It’s been a busy time for this gorgeous pup, thanks to donations like yours. Before Christmas, Kimba spent a few days in her companion’s office in the Auckland CBD catching the ferry, finding ticket machines, seats and pedestrian crossings, as well guiding to the office, dealing with busy lifts – and surprising office workers!
She settled beautifully into the office environment, joining meetings and watching the Zoom meetings like she was one of the team, thoroughly enjoying relaxing in the air conditioning.
Kimba handled Christmas shopping like a pro, dealing with busy malls and supermarkets and spent January at the beach showing off her skills at ignoring dogs while out walking. Great job, Kimba!
Paddy
Paddy has been a dream pup. With your help, his self-confidence has grown by learning a few new things, like finding a chair and working on duration of commands and acing his stairs, which he is always so proud of!
He had a very busy day flying up to Auckland from Wellington for one of his assessments and returning that evening. He took it all in his stride, he even got to check out the flight deck and nothing was complete without a photo with the pilots!
Paddy has just completed his three-day assessment walk and they said he did very well and is now getting ready for formal training! Well done, Paddy!
Gino
Gino has spent the last four months living at our brand new Guide Dog Development Centre while he is put through his paces of intensive Guide Dog Training, made possible by donations like yours.
Gino is a tall lad who strides out with his trainer at full pace. He’s been trained to stop at kerbs, avoid obstacles and keep his distractions in check, visiting many different environments including residential, semi-business, city, country and areas with high dog distraction.
Gino is comfortable on buses and trains, and confidently heads into 2025 with the foundation skills of guiding – and is on track to qualify before being matched to a suitable client. Great work Gino!
