Emotional Support

Working with a counsellor can be one of the best ways to support you and your family and help you manage the emotional impact of sight loss.

Counsellors listen. They work with you to explore your feelings and concerns in a safe and respectful environment. Confidentiality is a big part of their relationship with you and is respected at all times.

Counselling can also help if your child or teenager is struggling with their vision. They can help by working directly with your child or with you, giving you the skills and confidence you need to support them.

If you need counselling support or would like more information, call our team on 0800 24 33 33 or email generalenquiries@blindlowvision.org.nz

Telefriend

Telefriend is a peer support service for people who are blind or have low vision, and their caregivers, family and friends. It offers the chance to talk to others who understand from their own lived experience. Telefriend is a caring and confidential service.

You can call Telefriend on 0800 100 051 from 1pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Outside these hours, you can leave a message and we will call you back. We’d love to hear from you!
