A free, trackable postal option for sending and receiving accessible format materials across New Zealand.

Who Can Use This Service?

The Articles for the Blind service is available to:

  • Blind Low Vision NZ members
  • Anyone with a print disability
  • Organisations that support blind and low vision people

What Can You Send?

The Articles for the Blind service allows you to send:

  • Braille materials (documents, books, transcriptions)
  • Audio material produced specifically for blind and low vision individuals
  • Larger accessible equipment (by arrangement via AFS Logistics): Perkins Braille Typewriters, DAISY Players, Amazon Alexas, and similar items

Print-only materials (including Large Print) and general/non-accessible items are not eligible.

The Articles for the Blind Mailing Package

BLVNZ supplies a simple kit so members can post small Braille and audio items independently.

What’s included?

  • 6 Braille boxes (each holds up to 60 embossed pages)
  • 6 BLVNZ AftB labels (ncludes To and From address fields)
  • 6 NZ Post courier tickets (free, trackable within New Zealand)
  • 1 Step-by-step instructions

Package limits

  • Weight: ≤ 3 kg

    per box

  • Volume: ≤ 0.005 m³ per box

How to Use the Mailing Package Service

1. Assemble

Fold a Braille box along the pre-creased lines and secure tabs with tape

2. Pack

Place eligible items only. Keep within 3 kg and 0.005 m³. Seal with tape.

3. Label

Attach one BLVNZ AftB label (To/From) and one NZ Post courier ticket.
Packages without both labels won’t be accepted by NZ Post.

How to Send

  • Drop off at an NZ Post shop, or
  • Bring it to a BLVNZ office,(we’ll arrange pickup), or
  • Book a courier pickup with NZ Post

Use the number on your NZ Post ticket to track your parcel at NZPost.co.nz or call 09 977 0102.

Re-ordering a Mailing Package

When you’ve used all six boxes/tickets, you can request one new package every 3 months.

Sending larger items (Perkins, DAISY, Alexa, etc.)

Larger or heavier accessible devices do not fit the standard mailing package but can be sent free via Articles for the Blind when arranged by AFS Logistics.

Delivery timeframes

Most deliveries arrive within days. Timing varies by post and location.

Cost

Articles for the Blind postage is free for eligible items within New Zealand.
