Braille Collection

The Aurora Web Portal provides access to eBraille files through a web browser. It is a service already being used by blindness agencies internationally and provides a secure and sustainable way for us to continue offering direct eBraille downloads.

Downloading eBraille from Aurora Web Portal

Downloading eBraille from the Aurora Web Portal website is a three-step process.

  • Login to Aurora Web Portal
  • Search for a title
  • Download title

Login to Aurora Web Portal

On the Aurora Web Portal home page use the Login link.  (visually it appears as a button located top right of screen). This will take you to the account login page.

There are two fields to complete here:

  • User barcode (a 7 digit number), and your password.
  • You can check the box to remain logged in if that is your preference.

Then use the login button.

Search for a title

By using the Advanced Search tool we can filter the results to only include titles in electronic braille formats.

  • Select the Advanced Search link. You will then go to the Search the Catalogue page.
  • In the search query field enter your search term, e.g. The author name, book title or keyword
  • In the Format field select Electronic Braille
  • Select any other search options that you feel will help your search
  • Select Search

Results

You will move to a results page that shows 10 results of your query (This can be changed in the My Account page.) At the top of the page will be the number of results found (For example, Results 1 to 10 of total 13.) Each result contains Title, Author, Publication, Book Number and Summary. At the end of each result, it will state if there is a download available. The title in each result is both a heading and a button so can be moved through by using the relevant screen reader commands for either option.

Download Title

Selecting a title in the results page will take you to the record description page, which includes more information about the title including file size and Braille information. Navigate to this information with your level 1 heading command.

Use the download button (located top left of the page) to download the file.

The .ZIP file containing all volumes in .brf will then download to your browsers download location.

If you want to download another selection from your search results, use the “return to search” button.
