Blind Low Vision NZ is undertaking a Braille user survey to build a clearer, up to date picture of how Braille is being used across our community.
It has been 40 years since we last gathered information like this from our community, and we acknowledge that an update is long overdue. A lot has changed in that time, including the technology people use to read, write and access information.
We want to better understand what Braille looks like in people’s lives today so we can make sure our services continue to meet the needs of our community into the future.
The Braille User Survey is part of the Braille Project, established in 2025 following comprehensive engagement with stakeholders. What we learn will help shape recommendations for Braille service delivery this year and in the years ahead.
The survey asks about your experience with Braille, including when and how you learned, how you use Braille today, the equipment and technology you use, and any barriers you have experienced in learning Braille or keeping your skills current.
Your feedback has already helped us make meaningful improvements. The Braille survey is another opportunity for you to have your say and help shape a strong and sustainable future for Braille.
We encourage all Blind Low Vision NZ clients with experience of Braille, past or present, to take part. You can also choose whether you would like your responses to be recorded against your name in the Blind Low Vision NZ client database.
