Position Statements Review Project
Blind Low Vision NZ is reviewing our 11 existing position statements to see which need updating, removing or combining, and whether a new statement is needed on a particular issue or area of life. We want to hear what issues matter to people who are blind, deafblind or have low vision and what changes they would like to see.
Key Dates
- September – December 2026: Review position statements.
- January – April 2027: Consultation open.
- May – August 2027: Review feedback and revise position statements.
- September 2027: All position statements reviewed, consulted, approved and in place.

What are position statements?
A position statement sets out an organisation’s view on an issue (for example transport) and what it wants to see change. It helps the organisation clearly explain and consistently advocate for that position.
How does Blind Low Vision NZ use position statements?
Position statements are a way for Blind Low Vision NZ to clearly set out our position on issues and provide a foundation for advocating for change. Position statements help Blind Low Vision NZ to:
- clearly state what we believe in and what we’re advocating for.
- explain the reasons and evidence behind our position.
- guide responses to government policy, legislation, consultations and other developments.
- give decisionmakers and stakeholders a clear understanding of what Blind Low Vision NZ is calling for.
