Getting around on public transport

When it comes to public transport, the Blind Low Vision NZ team can help you learn how to best use the modes that suit you.

Whether you use trains, planes, buses, ferries, or taxis, there are techniques to make your travel safe and easy.

In some areas of New Zealand, you are entitled to transport discounts. You can check in with us, or your local transport providers, to find out what’s available in your region.

Need help with private transport?

Sometimes it’s just not possible to take the bus or the train to an important eye clinic or Blind Low Vision NZ appointment, and you need help with private transport. Family and friends may not be able to drive you either. Don’t worry, the Blind Low Vision NZ might be able to get you there.

We have fantastic volunteer drivers in many areas of the country. We can usually find one to take you to and from your appointment.

We do our best to provide you with transport when you need it, but it does depend on driver availability. The Blind Low Vision NZ volunteer driving service only operates in cities and towns where we have volunteers available.
